Avocado Tree & Fruit

banner

It is an evergreen tree and has many branches. The avocado fruit may be round, pear shaped, or oblong, and the skin of the fruit may vary in texture and color. The flesh of the fruit is greenish yellow to bright yellow when ripe and buttery in consistency. The avocado fruit has one large seed which makes up to 10 - 25% of the fruit weight. The fruit of different avocado varieties may vary in moisture and oil content, from less than 5% oil to more than 30% oil. Avocado fruits range from 0.10 kg to more than 1.4kg in weight.

Using the high-density method, growers plant up to 400 avocado trees per acre on 10-foot by 10- foot blocks per tree - about four times the usual 110 trees per acre they plant on 20-foot by 20- foot blocks. Tree height is 3 meters in high density compared to up to 10 meters in conventional plantation. The shorter trees can be picked from the ground which makes harvesting faster and easier. Under the high-density planting program, growers can now produce, on average, 11,400 kg per acre compared to 3,175 kg per acres for conventional groves. Avocado tree gives fruit at 3 years, matures at 7 years and continue bearing the fruit for over 40 years. Pollination is usually done by honeybees and other insects

Production Regions: Avocado grows wherever mangoes can grow. Avocados are presently grown in, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka in the south-central India and in the eastern Himalayan state of Sikkim in India

Benefits of eating avocado fruit: The avocado is made up predominantly of the ‘good’ monounsaturated fat which is an essential part of a healthy diet. The avocado has the highest concentration of dietary fiber of any commonly eaten fruit. Because of their bountiful benefits, avocados are regarded as part of the world’s elite group of superfoods – foods packed with high levels of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other phytochemicals. Eating avocado reduces/eliminate cancer of breast, prostate and blood; reduces/eliminates diabetes, artery blockage, improves intelligence, reduces weight; reduces Parkinson’s diseases, etc.

Avocado can be eaten alone, in a sandwich, in a soup, as chutney, in ice cream, in smoothies, etc.

World market: Total Avocado market in 2019 was 21,000 crores. India’s share is almost zero in it currently. Since Avocado popularity is increasing rapidly, India is importing avocados. India has great potential for growing avocados to increase farmer income at least 3 times that of producing mangoes!

There is huge Indian consumer market and export markets of USA, Europe and Japan is waiting for us to prosper.

We will provide the farmers with genetically modified seedlings for best yield for your soil and weather condition, guide you how to take care of the tree and buy back avocados from you at prevailing price at your farm.

We will collect information from interested farmers about how many acres they would like to plant, location of the farm and any soil study they may have.

Planned to set up 5 vertically integrated plantations with sorting, grading and packaging plants. 4 large parcels of suitable land with water resources have been identified.

Estimated investment in each of 5 centers is expected to be around US$ 50 million. Each center will create 2,500 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs mostly in rural areas

Export grade avocados will be exported to USA, EU and Japan in competition with mainly Mexico. Medium and small grades will be distributed throughout India. A large distributor has been identified with cold storage facilities in major cities in India with transportation logistics. Like mangoes, avocado has limited self-life for fresh fruit. Any unsold avocados will be returned to our processing centers to make frozen dishes for distribution as well as made into dried powder. We plan to add minerals and vitamins in dried avocado packages to address the iron deficiency in 71% females, iodine deficiency in 56% of general population, special non-prescription additives to enhance the recovery of diabetics, breast cancer and prostate cancer. We plant to add more boron with power to help improve the memory for general populations and students.

Once financially stable, we plan to provide 1 free boron added packet to all students across India for lunch.
